4 Of The Best Accessible Beaches For UK Summer Holidays!

Back in the 1700s, one of the most popular go-to remedies given to people by their physicians for all sorts of ailments was a trip to a seaside town.

Known as the sea cure, it was believed that the coastal waters could help with everything from tuberculosis and tumours to lung diseases and melancholy… while one doctor even went so far as to suggest that drinking sea water with milk and honey could actually cure leprosy!

Now, while modern medicine suggests that some of the claims are most likely spurious, recent studies do show that sea air can be beneficial for health… and with summer just around the corner, now’s the time to start planning your next big trip away.

To help you work out where to go, here are just some of the most accessible beaches to be found around the UK, brought to you by the Concept Care team. Enjoy!

Great Yarmouth Beach, Norfolk

Great Yarmouth is home to 15 incredible miles of sandy beach, so you’re certainly spoiled for choice! The Central Beach between Britannia and Wellington piers features ramps down to the beach at various different places, allowing for easy disabled access.

Public and disabled toilets are nearby and deck chairs are available for hire, so you can kick back and relax with the greatest of ease.

Summerleaze Beach, Cornwall

Head down to Cornwall for a fabulous summer holiday away! Summerleaze Beach in Bude boasts impressive accessibility features, including level access and a flat viewing area, a Changing Places toilet facility and a sand wheelchair available for hire.

As for other facilities, you’ll find the famous Bude Sea Pool right here (perfect for outdoor saltwater swimming in safety!), the beautiful harbour and a beach cafe and bistro should you feel the need for refreshments.

Brighton Beach

One of the most famous beaches in the whole of the UK is, of course, Brighton Beach, with the sand spanning the entire width of the town itself – so it’s very easy to pop off for a dip in the sea!

There are Changing Places toilets on Madeira Drive and near West Street along the seafront and on the Western Esplanade in Hove, while Blue Badge parking can be found with ease thanks to the addition of 27 extra parking spaces at Madeira Drive.

There’s a wheelchair-accessible area on the beach just below the Brighton Centre and the Black Rock boardwalk is a safe and accessible route across the beach.

Skegness Beach, Lincolnshire

Skegness has long been one of the most popular seaside resorts for people of all ages, with a dazzling array of different attractions and activities. There really is something for everyone, including donkey rides, crazy golf, the vintage pier, the fairground, the promenade and lots, lots more.

In terms of accessibility, you’ll find disabled parking spots aplenty, accessible toilets – and the local seal sanctuary is also very wheelchair-friendly, so you’ll never be bored on a Skegness seaside trip!
