Finally, it seems that we’ve said a final goodbye to winter and spring is here at long last, bringing with it some beautiful sunshine and significantly warmer temperatures.
In fact, it’s expected to be as hot, if not hotter, than Corfu later this week so there’s no time quite like the present to plan some fun springtime activities that will get you out and about in the great outdoors.
But what to do? If you’re stuck for ideas, here are just a couple of suggestions from the Concept Care team that should keep you well entertained. Enjoy!
Try forest bathing
Spring is a wonderful time of year to head outside as much as possible, but if your mobility is somewhat restricted it can be difficult to go for long walks without taking breaks. An alternative to walking is forest bathing which, despite the name, doesn’t have to be done in a forest… any green space will do.
Forest bathing itself originated in Japan, with the idea being to immerse yourself in nature to help support your mental and physical health and wellbeing by engaging mindfully with your environment and anchoring yourself in the present moment. Now that the sun is out, it’s the perfect time to give this a go!
Socialise more
It’s easy to bunker down and hibernate over the winter months, but now that spring has sprung you can get outside and spend time with friends and family, whether that’s going for brunch at your favourite local hotspot, going for a fun picnic, heading to the beach for some bracing sea air… or something else.
Al fresco art
If you’re not feeling active but want to get outside, what about packing up your pens, pencils and paints to do a bit of life drawing or painting while enjoying lots of lovely fresh air? Drawing your surroundings is a brilliantly mindful activity and something that’s accessible for one and all, regardless of ability.
Gardening
Of course, one of the best ways to get a bit of exercise and enjoy the great outdoors is to do a spot of light (or heavy!) gardening.
Gardening has huge benefits for both our mental and physical health and there’s nothing quite like watching all your hard work pay dividends in the form of beautiful plants, shrubs and flowers. Once you’re done, you can sit back with a well-earned drink of choice, admiring all your hard work.
Enjoy local events
The uptick in the weather means that all sorts of exciting events will be going on in your local area, everything from music festivals to food and drink events, arts and crafts, parades, exhibitions and lots more. Keep an eye on what’s going on in your community to see if there’s anything you’d like to join in with.
