Keeping Spirits High This Blue Monday: Our Top Tips

Jewish live in care

After the excitement and frivolity of the festive season, it’s no surprise that January can be a difficult month for many. We’re tired, we’ve perhaps overindulged… and our bank accounts may look a little on the empty side!

This is all compounded by the fact that January is a long five-week month and the weather is more often than not cold, dreary and grey, keeping us all indoors and limiting our options for fun.

It really can be tricky to stay positive at this time of year – and January is also the month in which Blue Monday lands, often regarded as the most depressing day of the year.

It’s certainly not uncommon to feel lethargic, lacking in energy and low in motivation at this time of year, but it’s important to remember that, firstly, you’re by no means on your own in this and, secondly, there’s a huge amount you can do to lift your mood.

Here are a few top tips to bring some sunshine back into your life and beat the blues from the Concept Care. Which do you think would be most effective for you?

Connect with family & friends

One of the best ways to give yourself a lift is to spend time with friends, family and loved ones. If you’re unable to go out, invite people over for a cup of tea and a good chat. You’re sure to feel the benefits almost immediately – and it’s a great opportunity to talk about anything that’s worrying you in particular, as well.

Do something creative

Even the smallest of creative activities can have a huge impact on your mood. It’s all about being mindful and focusing on the task at hand. What about trying out some colouring-in books as a way to indulge your creative side? There are lots of adult colouring books out there these days and it’s an accessible option that most people are able to enjoy.

Sing!

For an instant mood booster, exercise your vocal chords! Singing is an incredible way to make yourself feel better and connect with yourself, mind, body and soul

Don’t worry about what you sound like… simply focus on the physical sensations of how it feels to belt out your favourite songs. The added benefit is that singing is actually a very physical activity and it will help keep you warm and keep that January chill at bay!

Head outside

Wintry conditions can be lovely if the skies are blue, crisp and clear – and you can really help your mental health by getting fresh air at this time of year. You don’t even necessarily have to go anywhere… simply sitting at your back door and soaking in the sights and sounds of the garden can make a big difference to how you’re feeling.

Of course, these are just a couple of hints and tips for battling the blues. If you need any further guidance and support, get in touch with us today to see how we can help.
