With Valentine’s Day fast approaching – a mere ten days away, in fact – now’s the perfect time to think about how you could make the international day of love full of fun and frolics for those in your care.
You don’t have to do anything particularly outlandish or expensive… it could be something as simple as bringing someone a lovely bunch of flowers to brighten up their home. Sometimes, there’s more beauty in simplicity and doing something small for someone, something you know they’ll appreciate.
Here are a couple of ideas from the team here at Concept Care to help you plan a wonderful Valentine’s Day this year. Which of these will go at the top of your to-do list?
Cook a fancy dinner
If your relative or loved one enjoys nothing more than eating delicious food but they’re no longer able to cook in the way they once did, what about planning a dinner that features all their favourite foods? If you start thinking now, you could find some recipes that can be made a few days in advance, so you don’t have to do all the heavy lifting on the actual day itself.
Looking for some recipe inspiration? Here are some wonderful Valentine’s Day ideas to help you whip up a storm in the kitchen.
Collect love messages
For something unique and special, why not go around all your friends and family members, asking them to write little notes and messages of love that you and the person you care for can read together and enjoy.
Even the smallest of gestures can bring cheer to someone’s day, reminding them that they’re loved, that they’re not alone and that people are thinking about them.
Look through photo albums
A little trip down memory lane does wonders for the soul and you could easily spend a few hours with your loved one flicking through old photo albums and reminiscing about all the amazing times you’ve shared over the years.
Take a day trip
Are there any special places that your loved one holds close to their heart? Taking a day trip to a place that is particularly meaningful could be a lovely way to mark Valentine’s Day, whether that’s a favourite restaurant, the location of a special moment that took place in the past or perhaps visiting the grave of a loved one who’s passed.
Watch romantic comedies
Romcoms are always a great watch and are sure to put you both in an excellent mood, giving you lots of laughs and giggles along the way. There’s nothing more joyful than watching two people overcome all the odds to fall in love, after all!
Practise self-care
Don’t forget that you need to show yourself the love as well on Valentine’s Day, so what about doing some self-care rituals together? This could be anything from putting on some face masks to bring some colour to your cheeks to doing some mindfulness meditation, helping to calm your mind and making you both feel more centred.
