If you’re looking to hit the kitchen and have a little fun, here are four diabetes-friendly recipes to try today. Which of these will you whip up first?

One of the most prevalent diseases in the UK is diabetes and, in fact, it’s the most common metabolic long-term condition in older people, with half of all people with diabetes aged over 65 and a quarter over the age of 75. Some ten per cent of people over 75 and 14 per cent over 85 live with the condition, which can reduce life expectancy by ten years.

Although diabetes care for older people can be challenging, with obstacles including patient frailty, issues with self-care and self-medication, and the management of multiple comorbidities, it is certainly possible to handle the condition through resilience and organisation.

With World Diabetes Day just around the corner, taking place on November 14th, now’s the perfect time to get a handle on diabetes distress and find ways to take back control.

One of the best ways to go about doing this is to focus on your diet. There is no specific diabetes diet, but what you eat can make a big difference to how well the condition is managed, as well as how you feel and your energy levels.

If you’re looking to hit the kitchen and have a little fun, here are four diabetes-friendly recipes to try today. Which of these will you whip up first?

Green thai fish curry

Not only does Thai food taste incredibly fresh and delicious, it all comes together very quickly once all the chopping is done. This recipe features healthy fish and seafood, as well as dark leafy greens, lots of herbs and spices, and a bit of coconut milk. Just ten minutes of chopping and 15 minutes of cooking, and your dinner will be on the table!

Pan-fried venison with blackberry sauce

Autumn is a wonderful time of year, with lots of amazing flavours to be revelled in, and what could be better than this show-stopping pan-fried venison with blackberry sauce? It might sound a little complicated but even inexperienced chefs will be able to see success with this dish… perfect for feeding a crowd without compromising on health.

Cottage cheese berry bowl

Looking to up your breakfast game? This cottage cheese berry bowl has all your bases covered and more. It’s very quick and easy to put together and you can even make it in advance the night before, just adding the cereal on top in the morning so it retains its lovely crunchy texture. Enjoy!

Curried chickpea stew

For a spot of winter fare this year, make yourself a big batch of this delicious curried chickpea stew with roasted vegetables. Full of flavour and packed with healthy antioxidants, you’re sure to make this time and time again.

This is the kind of dish that’s very easy to scale up, as well, so you can keep some portions in the fridge for the week and freeze a couple as well to save you time in the future.
